Hi! Comment ça flippe?

My name is Albert. Albert à Eddy( my Dad ) à Arcade (his dad) à Joe Macauque (head of our family tree). I'm an Acadian from the Evangeline region of Prince Edward Island. The Evangeline region is located in Prince County on our Island. It is a tiny French-speaking community complimented and anchored by our lively and well-developped Acadian culture.

I love natural medicines! It's one part of our Acadian traditions and let me tell you, I really need some because I'm sore all over!

How sore am I?

I have a sore throat, sore mouth, sore back, sore belly-button, sore lips, my forehead aches, my legs are sore, so is my stomach. I've got heartburn, my lungs ache... pretty much everywhere! Nevertheless, when I play "tounes" on the fiddle, I feel great! It's only when I stop playing, dancing, singing, and diddling the tunes that... Oh! la la! The soreness kicks in!

At the Blessing of the Boats

Just before the lobster season started, the beginning of August, at the Blessing of the Boats, I met up with Cyr à Jack à Ferdinand. I told him: "I'm coughing and I'm sore all over!"
He told me how his wife, Joséphine, would make him a "pourtesse" of onions to get rid of a cough.

Each household here has their own recipe a pourtesse. It is a little cotton pouch they you hand-sew and tie to the stomach. Inside you put whatever the sickness calls for. In this case, fried onions. You fry them just enough that they maintain their strength.

They can fix up anything! Remember though, sometimes they are hot so you have to be careful! Don't forget during Winter to wear red under your clothes either, it's an excellent way of avoiding a cold! Me, I wear red socks with mustard in them. It's great for warming up the feet and making you feel like dancing!
